The Demand For Plumbers Is Big

The demand for plumbers is huge 4500 new plumbers are required every year (according to Construction Skills, the Government’s skills council for the industry). The Government says the skills crisis will go on for at least the next 20 years.

In 2010 the average hourly rate charged for general plumbing was £30 per hour, the lowest rate was £24 per hour, while the highest was over £70 per hour. What Does A Want-a-be Pop Star Do When It Doesn’t Quite Work Out?

Gavin Bilbefast track plumbing training student Meet Gavin Bilbe ... 33 years old from London. Gavin started his working life as a musician. In fact he almost hit the big time. His band Dega Breaks was signed to a record label and sold singles throughout the UK and Europe.

He also played concerts in front of thousands of fans. But it didn’t quite work out and the band just missed out on pop stardom ... so what would he do next?

Well in the end Gavin realized that he needed to do something different. He spent a lot of time online looking at his options. Eventually he came across New Career Skills (NCS) and he liked the idea being a plumber.

After thoroughly accessing his training options he decided that NCS would be the best option as people were successful after training with them. While he was taking the course he worked as a music technician. In the days he would on his plumbing skills and in the evening he would work as a music technician.

He did find the learning curve steep as it was completely new to him. But once he settled down he really enjoyed it. Once he was qualified he walked into a job with AM Plumbing & Heating Services and couldn’t be happier with his decision to change his life and become a plumber.

He now also plans to add more qualifications to his arsenal and is going back to New Career Skills to do his NVQ and gas certifications.

“Everyone thinks it’s really good that I’ve done it,” he says. “After all, everyone wants to know a decent plumber.”
